- Raising the money to mount the first full scale black opera in South Africa
- Being asked to stand for political office by three separate parties in 1994, for South Africa’s first democratic election – and declining them all
- Assisting in arranging a memorial service for Archbishop Desmond Tutu (whom I knew and loved) at Westminster Abbey, London
